Technology never stops! What’s a craze today is sure to become obsolete tomorrow! Today it is the Apple iPhone (personally, I don’t know what the hype’s all about, but damn! You got to learn marketing from Apple), tomorrow it will be the N99! That’s right! N-series lovers the world over are waiting impatiently for the N99, estimated to be the rocking best in the series! Even while the world breaks doors of every Apple and AT & T store today to pounce on the iPhone, Nokia is keeping mum about its much awaited phone! Maybe it’s just the silence before the storm, maybe it’s learning the moves of its competitor, who knows! But I am going to just skip this iPhone fever and wait for the N99!

Air guitars: The Japanese way of making you a rockstar
June 29, 2007

Imagine you’re walking down a crowded street on a gorgeous California summer day and you walk past the woman of your dreams (or so you think). Wouldn’t you want to dedicate something to her? How about circling your hands in the air and being able to play that dedication to her? Sure, it might scare her far far away from you, especially if she didn’t know what’s going on!
But the good news is, that if she does know what technology you’re using to spin that dedication to her, she is going to be floored (at least I would be!)! Read more
Internet TV: The way of the future! Or so I hope …
June 29, 2007

Internet! It’s always been trying hard to rid us of the “idiot-box” syndrome, and the good news (or bad news for TV stations) is that the market for Internet TV is estimated to grow by 13.7 per cent US$5.79 billion in 2011 (It was US$422.7 million in 2006), according to a research report from iSupply. We all knew this was coming, didn’t we? The web was always on the growth trajectory of being the most-sought after interactive video library ever! N with more and more people glued to the internet at all hours, Internet TV is big business (I personally stopped watching TV 3 years back, n hook up everything from news to video to music from online). The good news is Read more

Iphone wait line: Do you know the way to San Jose?
June 29, 2007
The line is short and the atmosphere relaxed in front of AT&T´s store near Oakridge Mall. Most people had been there since the early morning. Only the guy that´s first in line had been there since Thursday morning. He said he is being paid by some company CEO (whom he refused to name) to hold that place until 6pm tonight.
Other stores in the San Francisco Bay Area report much longer lines, especially Apple´s own stores: At 9am there were 42 people lining at the Apple store in San Jose, over 150 in front of Apple on University Avenue in Palo Alto and 121 at San Francisco´s Union Square.
Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, all technical big-wigs are at bottlenecks with each other. Well, not quite literally. But yeah, Microsoft has made a smashing entry into the online storage market, with the introduction of two new services to its Windows Live line-up, with plans to introduce more by the end of this year.
Microsoft sure may have some sort of monopoly over the market, but Google, in my opinion is still the undisputed market leader with it having introduced far more user friendly storage options with gmail.com, and docs and spreadsheets far before Microsoft even thought of it! All that being said, the two new services Read more
Cell phone Xcess: The new invader of the world
June 29, 2007
A once considered “luxury” (Well, I still consider it one, coz I wonder what I would do without it), the cell phone is all set to take over half the world’s population in 2007. Pheww you might say, but it’s true! As per a report brought out by UK based telecom companies, the amount of cell phone owners will exceed the whopping 3.5 billion mark by the end of this year.
Just think about it. Just a few years ago, how many people would you have known carrying a mobile phone? Very few, I guess. But today, even if it’s a developing economy like India or China, you see a cell phone in almost everyone’s hand, whether it’s a highly successful businessman driving a Mercedec or a rickshaw driver. Ask or Google: What´s the future of Search?
June 29, 2007

“Hey you can just go Google it and you’ll find it”, might not remain such a famous daily-life statement anymore, especially with its competitor Ask.com, going overboard with making its sight extremely user-friendly and easy to navigate (I still like google far more than Ask). The venerable Wall Street Journal even concludes Ask.com has now the lead over the Goog in terms of how search results are displayed and navigated.
Apparently, while google doesn’t give you an entire series of options in terms of getting news, images and video on the same page while you run a search, Ask, with its new look is designed to give you all that and much more. Read more
Microsoft’s IQ PC: A non-IQ phenomenon
June 29, 2007

Microsoft’s attempts at building low-cost PCs are known to one and all (I’m sure there is a lot of good intention involved), and equally known is their obliviousness of the word “low cost”. But the good thing is, they never seem to give up.
In yet another attempt to bring low-cost PCs to India and bestow more students with PCs ( In a country that is still struggling to get rid of post-colonial poverty), Microsoft is soon to introduce the IQ PC through retailers, bookshops and other stores in Bangalore and Pune, with plans to sell it throughout the country by November.
Aimed at students from kindergarten (or nursery school, that’s what its called in India) to 12th grade, these computers come equipped with Windows Vista Basic, Works, and Student 2007, along with other third party software and is built on AMD-developed hardware made by Zenith Computers ( a household name in India). TI: HD-quality phones to come out in 2008
June 28, 2007

A new breed of cell phone is coming out next year as Texas Instruments is currently perfecting OMAP 3.
OMAP 3 boasts as a high performance phone processor thus making mobile technology faster and more producive. Based on the new ARM Cortex superscalar-A8 microprocessor core, it promises to take mobile applications to the next level.
Imagine watching your movies at a 720×1368 pixel resolution on a 2 inch screen. Incoming calls would not interrupt your movie-watching because it can do multiple processes in one time. There has also been a plan to insert mini-projector functions on the OMAP 3-powered cell phones. If you want to watch a movie, you just point the cell phone-projector on a flat wall and -voila- instant movie. You can also shoot 12 mega pixel pictures using the OMAP 3 phone.
But movie fanatic as I am, I would still prefer watching my films on widescreen than on a 2-inch LCD display. (Seph)
