Shifting to more effective options, costwise and exposure-wise seems to be the trend of the season. Perhaps, that is why Joost is all set to shift from its core peer-to-peer format, and stop making its desktop client. Yeah, yeah, we know. It looked like it was made to sell when it was launched by Skype co-founders Janus Friis and Niklas Zennström, with over $45 million raised in venture capital, but from we hear, the company is soon going to announce a shift to the browser-only strategy, in which much of its content is going to be available through a browser-based player.
It is likely to release a small plug-in that would encrust itself in the allow you to grab files using the P2P technology. The browser client is expected to have better quality as well. Joost isn’t the only startup to give up backing solely the client. Veoh and Jaman adopted a browser-and-client strategy, which has helped boost their audience.
