Hitachi recently made anannouncement that they are almost through developing a methanol-based fuel cell. This may not be the first in the world but this one is actually smaller by 45% from their current fuel cells.
The greener version of the fuel cell is also said to be quieter and can generate 1.5 hours on a 0.45 liter of methanol according to CrunchGear.
Measuring only 32 x 21 x 22 cm, this new methanol fuel will be tested in the UK. Together with the Center for Process Innovation, Hitachi will see if the fuel cell will work without any problem. It will be first used to power road signs and surveillance cameras.
