All you twitter-bugs out there, here’s some more exciting news for all of you. The Twitter Chairman a.k.a creative expert Jack Dorcey has a new project idea that he plans to start playing around with soon. Oh no, he will always continue being associated with Twitter he says, since it’s his baby and he is so involved in it; so you don’t have anything to worry.
And what’s the new project code-named? Squirrel. And why is it codenamed like that? Well from what we hear, it’s a service that allows anyone with an Apple iPhone to become a merchant. Yeah, you can just accept payments on your iPhone; pretty similar to what Paypal does on the web.
Squirrel is both a physical device add-on to the iPhone as well as an iPhone app. What’s even cooler is that the device gets sufficient power from the physical swiping of the credit card to then read the card, so it requires no external power from the iPhone or anywhere else. It’s called Squirrel because it apparently looks like an acorn.
C’mon, were you thinking there’d be no logic behind that name?
