When it came to accessing eBooks, Amazon’s Kindle set the trend, and occupies a share of the eBook market, that no one even thought existed at one time. As per Citigroup’s estimates in fact, Amazon sold 500,000 eBook readers last year alone, which is a mighty big share of the still-growing eBook market. Looks like Google has sniffed opportunity here as well.Google was seen throwing hints at introducing a system for publishers to sell their books. And when Google throws a hint like that, you know it is mightly serious. Publishers would set the retail pricing for new prints, which is expected to be equivalent to hardcover pricing. But Google won’t let them rip ya off, and will moderate anything that it finds exhorbitantly priced.
Whatever it does, it has a very stiff competitor to fight against, and from what people’s opinion on this whole system is, Amazon will still be the one to have the last laugh, just like Apple did when it came to its proprietory iTunes system.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
