Ever since the term netbooks entered the public domain, there has been nothing but confusion. A plethora of people confusing them as someting different from notebooks, either end up being satisfied, having ad their priorities wrong, or end up being totally unsatisfied. There doesn’t seem to be a middle line. Research firm NPD however insists that is far from where the real confusion is.

They insist that netbooks are nothing but lighter, cuter, slimmer and more basic versions of the notebook. It only as stuff that you need (or some people need) and does away with all the frills and fancies of owning a high-end notebook. And are they here to stay? Heck yes, they are! They will just get more dynamic an dpowerful wit time (or atleast we hope so).

Key findings of the research:

  • 60 percent of netbook owners expected the device to have the same functionality as a notebook.
  • 65 percent of the 18- to 24-year old demographic expected their netbook to perform better than a notebook. Only 27 percent of those felt that the netbook performed better than expected.
  • 59 percent of netbook consumers made a purchase decision based on device portability, yet 60 percent of netbook buyers never take the machine out of the house.
