[UPDATE] CNBC Says Facebook Will Launch Music Service on 22 September

And that’s just about it. Hinted on CNBC’s twitter account, social networking giant Facebook is about to launch a music service of some sort on September 22 this year. And what is so special with that date you might ask? It conveniently lines up with Facebooks’ F8 conference, an event created by the company for developers, entrepreneurs and innovators which Facebooks claims will ‘build a more social web by defining tomorrow’s websites, apps, and devices.’ And one of them might be that CNBC-hinted music service.

We have a strong feeling that this could be a Zune-backed service, a subscription service with a one-time fee that could be shared on your network. Or we’ll just have to wait and see.

UPDATE:

Mashable reports that the rumored service Facebook will be launching will be backed by Spotify, MOG and Rdio and has confirmed that the service will be announced at Facebook’s F8 developer conference on September 2. Read more on the report from Mashable here.
