Wisconsin Library launces iPad lending project

Wisconsin Library iPad Project

Admit it: the iPad is one revolutionary gadget. It’s launch prompted other companies to release their own tablets. The battle is not among the tablets but iPad and the others. Whether you like it or not, whether you’re a die-hard Apple fan or not, the iPad is THE tablet to beat.

That is why bigger establishments and institutions use the iPad for work, education, and even play. Earlier this week, Apple donated about 8,000 first-gen iPads to low-income teachers through an organization. And just recently, we learned of the Eau Claire public library in Wisconsin who lends iPads aside from books.

There are only 44 iPads ready for borrowing. Each is loaded with more than a thousand e-books, ten audiobooks, and apps for you to use.

Here is an overview of the the iPad lending project:

  • iPads donated by the Presto Foundation are now available for checkout
  • 32 iPads are available for checkout for one whole week, 6 for 4-hour in-house use, and 6 for Home Delivery Program
  • only current library cardholders in good standing may borrow an iPad
  • cardholder must be 18 years of age to borrow an iPad
  • one iPad per household can be checked out
  • each iPad is WiFi-enabled and pre-installed with 1,000 plus e-books, audiobooks, and apps
  • the lending program begins with a soft launch, up to ten iPads are put into circulation each week, and Home Delivery Program will be available from October 15 to November 1
  • customers may reserve an iPad after the initial launch
  • the goal of the program is to provide library customers familiarity and comfort with new technology
  • the iPad was chosen as a tablet marketplace leader and its flexibility in giving more access to information in different media formats
  • the library is embracing change while continuing its goal of promotion a culture of reading in all its forms Source
