I’m not sure if this is good news or bad news but Apple is recalling a batch of the first generation iPod Nano. The models issued last 2005 are said to have bad batteries from one supplier. Some batteries could start a fire. The older a battery gets the most likely it will flame up.
Here is an official statement from Apple:
Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006.
This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages.
Apple recommends that you stop using your iPod nano (1st gen) and follow the process noted below to order a replacement unit, free of charge.
I couldn’t think of one who got the first gen iPod Nano but I’m sure that those who did would not mind having theirs replaced by Apple. I think five year old iPod Nano to be replaced by a new one is okay even if it takes six weeks.
