CES 2012 will be about Ultrabooks

The year is about to end and it only means one thing for us: a new year is coming and with it comes the CES. We always end and start the year busy with parties left and right but for us people into gadgets and tech news (aka geeks), there’s the Consumer Electronic Show to look forward to. For the past few years, each year a certain product would be the center of attention. In 2009, netbook was all the rave while in 2010, it was all about 3D TVs.  This year, tablets are in the spotlight. Next year, it’s expected that ultrabooks– you know, those super thin notebooks-slash-MacBook Air rivals– will be the theme in CES 2012.

This is according to CEA director of research Shawn DuBravac who forecasted that about 30 to 50 ultrabooks will be launched at the CES. Wow! That’s a very huge number of what could be MacBook Air killers. All we need to do next year is watch closely these ultrabooks and see which one from which company would give Apple’s MacBook Air a run for its money.

What’s an ultrabook? It’s a super portable notebook computer that uses a small chipset. Basically, an ultrabook is a super thin, slim, and sleek laptop that’s ultra powerful. A number have hit the market already and were launched at the IFA 2011 but we’re expecting a surge in 2012. CES 2012 will be the launching pad for most of these ultrabooks and more.

With the introduction of the 22nm Ivy Bridge CPU processor, USB 3.0, and PCI Express 3.0, we could expect these to be loaded into the ultrabooks. Exciting, yes. January could bring excitement but that might change if and when Apple decides to release a thinner MacBook Pro. Oh well, we’ll get there someday. For now, I’m focusing my eyes on CES 2012 and the arrival of the ultrabooks.

Here’s a review of some of the Ultrabooks we’ve featured:
