In a speech given recently by Honda CEO, Takanobu Ito, Honda’s plans for their future drive trains were outlined. Tackanobu spoke of 3 systems. One being a single motor hybrid system which is currently being used by Honda, a two motor hybrid system which will be found in their mid-size vehicles and a 3 motor system being focused on driving performance. The first system is already in use by Honda. But there will be improvements made, including battery performance, motor output and a newly developed transmission. The 2014 Honda Plug-in will be the first to feature their 2 motor system, being powered by a gasoline engine with a output of 137HP and partnered with a 124 kw electric motor. This combination will produce a total of 196hp.
The third system is called the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD and will be highly efficient, providing a high output. It will be used to power the new NSX, Acura RLX Sport Hybrid Model and the successor model to the legend, which will be introduced to the Japanese market in 2014.
As you can see, Honda has great plans for their Hybrid vehicles in the coming future which should definately elevate their vehicles in the hybrid market when they are released.
