Hitachi announced a new technology which uses a storage meadia that stores CD level digital media on a piece of Quartz Glass. And the cool part is, it could possibly last forever.Maybe not forever, but Hitachi says this Quartz Glass media could endure extreme environmental conditions without degrading, unlike CDs or DVDs, which could chip, break or crack. The Japanese company says this new technology stores data in binary like form by creating dots inside a thin layer of quarts readable with an ordinary optical microscope and a compatible software. First prototypes are thin too, a 2-cm² piece at 2mm thickness, including in its actual form a four layer design which can store same amount of data as your average CD-R disc.
