Wi-Fi Wars: People Are Using Network Name to Tell Off Their Neighbours

October 25, 2012

Gone are the days when people’s Wi-Fi networks are just named “D-Link” or “Cassandra’s Wifi” – users have discovered a much more sinister purpose for these names: to send off passive-aggressive messages to neighbours without revealing too much about themselves. In a report by BBC, neighbours would use “Stop Stealing My Paper” for their network and the culprit responds with a network name, “”FYI, I Don’t Read It I Just Throw It Away!” How fun is that, right?
Ideal for solving co-op housing disputes, but sometimes there are things best settled in the apartment lobby, or during that awkward elevator ride.

Here’s some of the funny network names from BBC’s report:

    “Stop slamming the door!!!”
    “Stop wearing heels!”
    “Shut up”
    “Stop running”
    and “Stop shouting!”
