We all know how Ford is getting greener and more hi-tech. Earlier last year, we mentioned how autopilot cars courtesy of Ford could arrive next decade. And this week at the CES, Ford has announced that its open mobile app developer program for both Android and iOS apps. Yes, future Ford cars will be “smarter” will all the apps that can be installed. Ford’s new program is like an SDK but for the cars.
Ford’s SDK will focus on a car’s entertainment system to allow two-way communication between the car and another smart device via the apps. This will also include Ford’s current SYNC system to send voice commands to the app or give feedback, as well as, utilize the text-to-speech engine, button controls and menu system.
Under the program, a developer has to submit an app for engineer’s review to Ford.
When approved, the developer will then get a distribution license for submission to either Google Play Store or the App Store.
