Ford wants to fix a not so small corrosion problem. The car manufacturer is recalling 196,000 Mercury Monterey and 2004-7 Ford Freestar minivans. The issue is said to cause some vehicles’ fold-down third-row seats not to lock safely. Ford spokeswoman Kelli Felker shared the information recently.

Outside the US, mainly in Canada, about 33,500 vehicles are also being recalled. And in the US, only those registered and sold in the District of Columbia and 20 other states are being recalled.

Here’s a list of the states: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Ford wants “to avoid a protracted dispute with the agency” so it’s doing the recall and even if it believes the corrosion “does not present an unreasonable risk of accident or injury.”
