Having your phone stolen really sucks. It’s like being crippled because you can’t do anything without it. While some people have successfully recovered theirs because of some phone finders and unsung heroes, there are more who wish they could just block their units so the thief wouldn’t be able to sell or use it. Luckily, the wireless industry group CTIA is finally okaying the stolen phone database that was launched only last year. This database is shared by US mobile carriers Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile with the aim to block the phones stolen.
The database was first described to be useless because thieves would simply send the phones to other countries but CTIA said this will include those US device activations. Not all countries are listed but the database means these thieves now have fewer choices of countries to sell their stolen goods.
